What is a pediatric dentist?

A pediatric dentist is a dentist with an additional three years of specialist training in dentistry for children.

The training includes specialized care for children’s teeth and ways to encourage a happy, positive experience for your child when going to the dentist.

Dental Health Care Starts Early!

The Canadian Dental Association recommends the assessment of infants by a dentist, within 6 months of when their first tooth surfaces, or by one year of age.

Thereafter, children should visit the dentist every six months for a check-up and cleaning, just like adults.

We're here to help your children achieve optimum oral health. We focus on improving your child’s oral health, in addition to educating them at a young age on how to maintain a healthy smile.

Children's Dental Services

When working with children, we understand the importance of each visit. We offer a variety of children's dental services, including:

Assessment

Our dentists examine your child's teeth for potential oral health problems by performing:

  • Oral health exams and risk assessment
  • Nutrition and diet assessment
  • Diagnosis of oral conditions associated with disorders such as diabetes and asthma

Prevention

Our dentists provide preventive treatment and educational management to help your child maintain a healthy smile by performing:

  • Dental check-ups
  • Dental cleanings and hygiene management
  • Habit counselling (e.g., thumb sucking) and custom mouth guards

Restoration

Our dentists provide a vast range of dental treatment services for:

  • Tooth decay and damage
  • Pediatric gum (periodontal) disease
  • Dental injuries (e.g. fractured, displaced, or knocked-out teeth)
  • Malocclusion (improper bite) and bruxism (grinding)

We make it easy and fun to go to the dentist!

To help kids feel comfortable about the dentist, we offer a special "kid’s tour" which introduces your child to the office and the dental team. This fun tour includes an opportunity to enjoy a "chair ride", to meet the "tooth explorer", and to play with the popular water squirt, all while making friends with our team of dental professionals.

The objective of our popular "kid’s tour" is to help make our young patients feel comfortable and relaxed when it comes time for a dental exam or procedure.

We also offer a child's play area and other fun amenities to help make your child's dental visit as fun and positive as possible.

Our pediatric dentist may be an excellent resource for any questions you might have about your child's dental health. This combined with our support staff helps creates an environment that is designed to help your entire family's dental needs.
