At Fraser Valley Dental Specialists in Abbotsford, our dentists and on-site oral surgeon often recommend removing wisdom teeth to prevent future dental health problems.
Wisdom teeth are the third molars in your mouth and they are positioned at the very back of your jaw. When they are healthy and properly positioned, they typically don’t cause any problems, and can be left in place.
However, because they grow in so much later than the rest of your teeth, there is often not enough room in the jaw to accommodate them.
As a result, they may not be able to surface completely (or at all), or they may surface in the wrong position. This can result in infection, pain, cysts, damage to nearby teeth, and even crowding and misalignment of your other teeth.
In addition, since wisdom teeth are positioned so far back in the mouth, they can be very difficult to see and clean, so even when they do grow in properly, your dentist may still recommend removing them. This will lessen the chances of gum disease or tooth decay developing in the back of your mouth.
At Fraser Valley Dental Specialists, our on-site oral surgeon, Dr. Dahlman, is a board-certified specialist in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, with many years of experience extracting wisdom teeth.
Dr. Dahlman will assess your mouth and the current state of your wisdom teeth and make a recommendation for extraction (if needed) based on your needs.
