The Invisalign® Journey

Okay, so you decided to commit to orthodontic treatment using clear aligners, what now? Our Abbotsford orthodontist shares some things to know about the Invisalign® journey from beginning to end.

You may have decided that it's time to commit to treating your gapped or misaligned teeth with Invisalign clear aligners. Our Abbotsford orthodontist is here to share everything you can expect throughout the Invisalign process.

We are here to help you be prepared for all the unexpected moments throughout your Invisalign treatment to help make it a comfortable journey.

Your Invisalign Consultation

You will begin your journey by scheduling an Invisalign® consultation with your orthodontist. At the consultation, your orthodontist will complete an exam that will include digital X-rays, a bite registration (how your upper and lower teeth fit together), dental impressions, and photos of your teeth.

Once your orthodontist has all of the information needed, he will sit down with you to share the possible treatment options. Your orthodontist will write a prescription that documents the current status of your teeth, how you’ll be treated, and what changes you can expect from your tooth alignment.

The Decision to Commit to Invisalign

If you and your orthodontist decide that Invisalign is the right choice for you, your orthodontist will send your information (including your dental impressions) to Align Technology where Invisalign technicians will create a digital 3D model of your teeth.

They will also create an animation to show what your teeth look like at the beginning of your journey and how you may expect them to look at the end. Once you approve the animation, production on your custom Invisalign trays will begin, which may take up to four weeks.

Your Invisalign Clear Aligners

Once your aligners are ready, you can pick them up at your orthodontist's office. Your orthodontist will ensure that your aligners fit properly before you take them home.

Although your Invisalign aligners are removable, our Abbotsford orthodontist recommends you wear them for 20 to 22 hours a day and only remove them for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing.

You will change the custom fit aligners every two weeks until treatment is complete. You will also attend an appointment with your orthodontist every six weeks to monitor your progress and make sure your treatment is going as planned.

What to Expect From Your Invisalign Results

Provided you have followed your orthodontist's instructions during treatment you should be able to enjoy a straighter smile at the end of the Invisalign process.

Your orthodontist may recommend a retainer to maintain your new smile and to ensure your teeth do not shift from their new positions.

If you have any questions about Invisalign and the process from start to finish, please contact our orthodontist at Fraser Valley Dental Specialists today to request a consultation.
